This Celebrity Dietitian Says to Always Keep These 4 Items in Your Pantry to Lose Weight

Achieving your desired body starts right in the kitchen, so who better to look to for advice than a registered dietitian? We connected with celebrity nutritionist and dietitian Keri Glassman, MS, RD, who shared which items to always keep in your pantry for weight loss. The good news? You may already have some of them stocked up! See ahead for the four items Keri swears by.

  1. Bouillon: In addition to being a convenient bone broth solution (all-day simmering not required!), low-sodium bouillon cubes are a great, low-calorie way to add flavor to veggies and salads. "I am a fan of BOU because it has all-natural ingredients, no artificial flavors, and is lower in sodium than other brands you'll find in the stores," Keri told POPSUGAR. "Bone broth made from any animal is going to be superrich in important minerals like phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium, all of which are great for your health." Lastly, bone broth is packed with collagen, which can help keep your bones, skin, and organs healthy.
  2. Spices: Meet the ultimate trifecta: flavor, nutrition, and virtually zero calories. "Increase the flavor and nutritional benefit of your meals with cinnamon (anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and rich in antioxidants), cumin (high source of iron, may aid in digestion), turmeric (improves metabolism of fat, may reduce gas and bloat), ginger (may reduce bloat and support gut health), and cayenne (linked to weight loss and lowering blood pressure)," Keri said. "I always keep a pantry stocked with a variety of spices to make it easy to add them to every meal."
  3. Chia seeds: Just one ounce of chia seeds (two thirds of a shot glass or two heaping tablespoons) is full of nutrition: 138 calories, 10 grams of fiber, 9 grams of fat, and 5 grams of protein. According to Keri, "It also has 17 percent of your daily calcium needs, 12 percent of your iron, and 23 percent of your daily magnesium needs." Not to mention it's high in omega-3s. Simply sprinkle them onto your oatmeal or fruit salad, add them into your smoothies, DIY your own chia pudding, or add it to a glass of water with lemon for a "superclean drink."
  4. Green tea: On top of containing cancer-fighting compounds, green tea has compounds called polyphenols and catechins that have shown to be protective of our heart and arteries. "The catechins in green tea have also been shown to have a positive effect on both weight loss and weight maintenance," Keri said.
