Here's Everything You Need to Know About Beyoncé's "Before I Let Go" Challenge
Remember the "In My Feelings" Challenge inspired by Drake last Summer? Bad news if you're still trying to nail that one, because now there's a new dance challenge in town. Introduced on April 23 by queen Beyoncé herself, the "Before I Let Go" Challenge already has members of the Beyhive across the globe trying to replicate her instructed moves. But what exactly does this challenge entail?
Unless you're living under a rock, we're sure you're aware that Netflix recently released a special called Homecoming to commemorate Beyoncé's insanely awesome 2018 Coachella-headlining performance, which served as an ode to historically black colleges and the black experience. She also simultaneously dropped a live album of the performance, because Beyoncé loves surprises almost as much as we love Beyoncé.
"Before I Let Go" appears as a bonus cut on the album where the superstar covers Frankie Beverly and Maze's 1981 smash hit of the same name. As she instructs in the song, "Turn around, kick, then slide/ And twirl that ass to the right now/ Ooh, bunny hop, bunny hop, drop, pop/ Cross your legs, turn around and clap/ Shuffle to the left, let's glide now/ Ooh, drop it down, drop it down low, low." Sounds easy enough, right?
In one of her first-ever Instagram story posts, Beyoncé reposted her favorite clips of fans dancing to her cover of "Before I Let Go," and before you know it, the #BeforeILetGoChallenge took off. The resulting dance is like a cooler version of the Electric Slide, and you seriously need to study up before the next wedding you attend, because chances are that people will be doing it.
