  • The lip stain comes in a peel-off format that leaves your lips coated in long-wearing color.
  • Our editor tested the shade "Romance" and loved the final result.

If a lipstick peels off, that usually guarantees it a one-way ticket to the garbage bin — unless you're using the Wonderskin Wonder Blading Peel & Reveal Lipstick ($32). This unexpected beauty product has made quite the name for itself on TikTok.

You may have already spotted this product on the app. As far as lipsticks go, Wonderskin's stain is instantly recognizable. Right out of the tube, the "lip mask" has a metallic purple hue to it that resembles something you'd want to wear to a concert or during Halloween. The peel-away pigment, which feels like a thick lip gloss, is then left on to sit for 10 to 45 seconds while it stains your lips with long-lasting color. After the time is up, you spray it with the "lip activator" mist, turning the gloss into a peel-off film. What's left is a wash of color that feels like a second skin and packs some serious staying power.

I've seen quite a few people try the Wonderskin Wonder Blading Peel & Reveal Lipstick, but still, I don't think I was ready for how striking the metallic purple gloss is. To prepare, I exfoliated my lips with a sugar scrub to ensure smooth, even coverage. The instructions state to apply two to three thick coats of the mask onto your lips in short strokes until none of your skin is visible, but the more you add, the more the formula starts to get tacky. Because I knew how final the color was, I made sure to be extra careful when going around the outer edges of my lip because the doe-foot applicator isn't the most precise. Then you wait.

The longer you let the mask sit, the more saturated your lip color comes out. Unintentionally, while I fumbled with the mist applicator trying to open it (don't be like me), I ended up letting mine sit on for the full 45 seconds. I was a tad bit nervous my lips would come out looking doll-like but there was no going back at that point. Before you spray on the mist, it's recommended that you hold the towel (included in the kit) under your bottom lip to catch any dripping.

This is where the magic happens: after a few spritzes of the mist, the lip gloss instantly turns into a peel-off film that you can use your fingers to remove. (So cool!) What little residue is left on your lips can then be wiped away with the towel. Just be careful when peeling it off with your fingers because like your lips, the pigment can "stain" your fingertips temporarily.

I used the shade "Romance," which gave my lips a beautiful berry stain. The best part is, after you remove the film, there's absolutely no product left on your lips — not even a light coating — making it 100 percent transfer-, smudge-, and waterproof. You can easily layer a clear gloss over the lip for a shiny finish, but I love the natural, your-lips-but-better look it gives you. And it's not the least bit drying like some stains.

Truth be told, I've never met a more perfect lip stain for date night, mask-wearing, or just anyone who can't stand having to reapply. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to be ordering every other shade off of Amazon.
