Kid Cudi Got a Tattoo Honoring His Late Dog, Freshie, and Yes, There Are Tears In My Eyes

Kid Cudi is honoring the memory of his late dog, Freshie, with some new ink. The rapper paid a visit to celebrity favorite tattooist, Dr. Woo, this week and got two new portrait tattoos of the bulldog's face on his hand and thigh. "Freshie 4 ever 🙏🏽❤️," Dr. Woo captioned a gallery showing off both tattoos.

The rapper announced Freshie's passing in an Instagram post shared on Aug. 24 featuring several photos and videos taken of the dog over the years. According to the lengthy caption, Freshie passed away peacefully a few days prior surrounded by some of Cudi's close friends and family. "I held his hand and whispered in his ear to let him know I was there while he slipped away," he wrote. "I told him he was a special boy, my best friend, that he was perfect and that I loved him and Ill [sic] miss him so so much. I felt his heart stop beating and felt his last breath."

Cudi had been a dog parent to Freshie for over a decade. He brought him home in 2010 while filming HBO's How to Make It in America after the show's producers revealed they wanted his character to "sell weed and walk dogs" in season two. The rapper mentioned that he hadn't had much experience with dogs other than brief interactions with those owned by his friends. Cudi detailed in the caption that Freshie's presence made him more comfortable with dogs in general, though he also helped the rapper deal with depression and suicidal thoughts.

"He came up and licked me if i was crying, he loved to lay in bed w me, he was always by my side or close by," he wrote. "He was my guardian angel."

Cudi ended his caption with a sweet message to Freshie. "I love you forever Mr Freshly," he wrote. "Til we meet on the other side my beautiful special boy. Goodbye."
