Jennifer Lopez 20th Perfume | Interview

Jennifer Lopez on How Love (and Animal Print) Inspired Her 20th Perfume

It's hard to wrap our minds around it, but Jennifer Lopez just launched her 20th fragrance. "It's pretty surreal, impossible to believe," Jennifer told us of the feat. The scent, JLove eau de parfum ($39-$49), is a fruity floral inspired by her Fall 2013 clothing collection at Kohl's. "With JLove we wanted to do something great that would go into Fall . . . and something inspired by my love of fashion," Jennifer says, adding, "That's why you'll see animal print and faux fur in the packaging."

The juice contains a white raspberry cocktail at the top; coconut orchid, water lily, and tiare Tahiti notes in the middle; and is rounded out with vanilla sorbet, white wood, and skin musk — "All my fragrances have musk," she says — at the base. And as the name suggests, JLove pays homage to the star herself. "It's taking the JLo name and the love theme that is in my music and movies and making it glamorous and sexy."

While Jennifer has been in the fragrance-making biz for over 10 years (the wildly popular Glow by JLo was released in 2002), the multitalented star admits the process has changed very little. "Working with Coty all these years, we've had all the same ideas from the very first fragrance," she says. Even the concepts behind each new release have remained similar. "What I'm feeling, I translate that into the fragrance, like how wood smells after it rains."

Also unchanged? Jennifer's love of the lavish. Of all of her red carpet looks over the years, she counts this year's dramatic Met Gala ensemble (pictured above) as one of her favorites. Donning punk-rock hair and a sultry eyeliner look, Jennifer had heads turning in a body-con Michael Kors gown featuring a sequined — you guessed it — animal-print design.
